Growing up SO FAST!

We can't believe how many developmental milestones Carson is hitting so quickly! He now sits up on his own no problem, has started to drink out of a sippy cup, and can stand up by holding on to something. He much prefers solid food over bottles, which sometimes causes a quite the power struggle, just ask his teachers at daycare! He has always been a little guy, but has been growing at record speed! He now weighs over 18 lbs, triple his birth weight!

More milestones yet to come....no teeth yet...but plenty of drooling and teething! He shows minimal signs of wanting to crawl despite many of his other baby friends taking the plunge...maybe he will be like his mommy and crawl at 13 months and walk at 17 :) Can't say I don't mind not having to chase him all over the place yet!

Flat Head Update!

So Carson, as many Anti-SIDS generation babies do, has a flat head from sleeping on his back. (He usually sleeps from 7 PM to 7 AM!) Sometimes a baby's head can become so flat, that it requires corrective action with a helmet. We hoped to avoid this helmet at all costs because babies usually have to wear them for 22 out of 24 hours a day for 2-6 months! 

Our pediatrician believed Carson was borderline for needing corrective action so she referred us to Boston Children's Hospital just to rule it out. We met with a neurologist last week, and he measured Carson to have 4 mm of "flatness". This was great news because to qualify for the helmet, you must have 8 mm of flatness! We were thrilled!

For now Carson can continue to work on "rounding" his head by sleeping on his side (and hopefully soon his stomach) and spending as much time playing upright as possible! Hopefully things will "pop out" eventually!

Someone refused to sit in his highchair for dinner tonight...

Fun May Randoms!

We are working on Carson's flat head! He has started to roll over onto his side at night which we hope will make a big difference!

 More fun playdates with Mackenna who just turned 1 and learned how to walk! Although Carson thinks this gives her an unfair advantage!

Mother's Day Visit

To play catch up...Ryan, Carson and I traveled down to Maryland (on our first airplane ride!) to visit both sets of grandmothers for Mother's Day. It was so much fun to be around family! Some of our relatives hadn't seen him since he was 8 weeks old, and they were all thrilled to be able to spend time with him! Here are some fun pics:

 He LOVED his first airplane ride! Drank a bottle during both take offs, slept during both landings...and giggled and squealed during any turbulence! Excellent first trip!

All in all, it was a great trip! We are flying to Michigan in July an are hoping that the flights go equally as well!

Carson's First Trip to the Beach!

Its About Time!

Its about time for another blog post! Things have been rather busy around here. Ryan just finished up his last semester of graduate school, which meant he was hogging the computer these last few weeks...sorry for the delay in postings!

We can hardly believe Carson is 6 months old! Lots of things have changed since his six month birthday. I slowly stopped nursing leading up to the 6 month mark. Carson became rather disinterested in having to "work for his meal" especially since the bottles of milk at daycare provided instant gratification...so he began fighting me on the nursing. We eventually were only able to nurse once in the morning, while he was still groggy and just wanted to snuggle! I, on the other hand, was having a very difficult time keeping up with pumping at work. My schedule is such that there is no consistent time for me to sneak away to the "maternal care room". After consulting with our pediatrician, and doing a little soul searching, Carson and I agreed that we were ready to switch until formula. Overall, I am happy with my choice, feeling as though making it to the 6 month mark is a huge feat!

So just as we were switching to formula...we also drastically increased his solid intake. He now eats breakfast, lunch and dinner. Solids + formula = a chunka-lunka baby! We cannot shovel food into his mouth fast enough!  He still prefers veggies over fruits, and has also taken on chicken, turkey, beef, ham, and tofu. Since my time is no longer consumed with nursing and pumping, I have gotten really into making my own baby food. I kind of stumbled upon it by accident! If anyone has any fun home made baby food ideas, let me know!

At Carson's 2 month appointment he was in the 10th percentile for both height and weight. At his 4 month appointment, he jumped up to the 15th percentile for both. We are happy to report that at his 6 month appointment, he was in the 30th percentile for weight and 40th percentile for height! Although he is still small compared to his other 6 month old friends...we think he is HUGE!!

Carson at 6 months old gets better and better everyday! His smile lights up a room, and his giggles are never ending!
